Best of the Week

author

In looking at the top favorited vizzes of last week based on the the 114k authors that I currently follow, I’ve come up with these gems. While there is no perfect way to identify top content, view counts often favor vizzes that are tied to news sites who are embedding the Tableau Public content. Therefore I tend to look at new vizzes with the most favorites.

This is not a replacement for engaging directly with the community, but I’m hoping to find a few killer projects that I may have missed.

#1 Most Favorited Viz!

Optimizing workbooks is certainly a great topic, and is presented here by Avdhesh Gaur. I saw this one come through as a Viz of the Day and it serves as a great reminder that I need to be sharing this one at work as part of our Tableau COE.

#2 Most Favorited Viz

This radial bump chart by Alexander boggles my mind. Curved lines and radial layouts are hard to achieve and wow the community, but personally I tend to get more excited about ideas that can apply to my day-to-day job. Truly amazing work though! Really everything that Alexander has been producing lately is amazing, so please check out his profile here.

#3 Most Favorited Viz

Adam McCann, Zen Master legend, kills it again with this viz about Sam Jackson. We have been rewatching most of Quentin Tarantino’s movies at home, so the timing of this viz really made my day!

I also never realized that Samuel L. Jackson’s middle name was Leroy!

#4 Most Favorited Viz

Kizley Benedict has all of her elements perfectly aligned in this #MakeoverMonday viz on Global Press Freedom. I felt compelled to download the workbook to see if this was floating transparent sheets or containers. Check it out for yourself, but getting the effect of in-cell charting takes a lot of finesse.

#5 Most Favorited Viz

I’m super excited to see this viz by Spencer Baucke emerging as an early #IronQuest entry. The highlighted hexes in the second chart on the right is a pretty interesting idea.

Quick reminder here, make sure to tag your #IronQuest entries in their description so it shows up when we summarize all of the submitted entries.

Honorable Mentions

This FIFA shot chart by Athan Mavrantonis is inspiring and certainly something my Data Visualization class will dig.

While my own music jam is more punk / post-hardcore / ska (only mostly dead), I can certainly appreciate this viz on Garth Brooks by Jim Van Sistine.

Finally, this tutorial by Toan Hoang on curved lines looks like a handy link to hold onto for later reference.

The Tableau Public community is amazing and I think it can be a powerful resource for enterprise customers to find ideas, recruit talent, practice techniques and just get excited about the tool. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for stopping by, and I hope to see you back next week.
