Best of the Week

The top 5 favorited vizzes this week starts off with, “Game, Set & Match Becker.” This visualization is actually a collaboration between Klaus Schulte and Ludovic Tavernier, so it by default has to be amazing! There is a lot going on in this lengthy viz, so you just need to check it out for yourself. Curved lines always seem to have a wow-factor though.

Next up is Ken Flerlage’s US births by day. This radial chart reminds me of the rings of a tree, so maybe that makes the visual analogy very fitting.

I had seen this next viz by Mina Ozgen a few days before it really blew up on Twitter. I loved the original Starcraft, and while my run with Starcraft 2 was very short-lived, I can certainly appreciate the beauty of this viz. I also am interested to learn more about creating custom polygons around clusters, to this is probably my personal favorite for the week.

Number 4 for the week is Andy Kreibel’s viz on NHL attendance. For me, this viz just indicates that Lindsey Poulter’s original DC Metro Scorecard has really impressed Andy and every derivate that has been created continues to be a fan favorite. To quote Andy on his take of the original, “I can’t think of a single thing I would change or improve. Might this be the “perfect” dashboard?”

Finally to round out the top 5 for the week is Matt Chamber’s viz on the “Path to the Playoffs.” I’m certainly not big into sports, but after following Matt’s work more closely, I seem to hear people talking about Clemson every where I go. Matt is also a huge influence on a lot of the students that I’ve had the pleasure of teaching over the past few years.

This curved bump chart looks great, too bad we didn’t have the option for curved lines in Tableau like we do for stepped lines.

Matt, while you do have a great team there at Clemson, I just have to say that we have the BEST mascot here in Philly!

Thanks everyone for stopping by…
